The much-anticipated Apple Event 2023 took place yesterday at Apple Park.
The event featured exciting announcements that left tech enthusiasts buzzing with anticipation. In this blog post, we will cover the five biggest revelations from the event and provide an overview of what to expect from Apple's latest offerings.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
The highlights of the event were certainly the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. These standard models underwent considerable improvements, including a new design with a hole-and-pill cut-out instead of the dated notch. Apple has also upgraded to USB-C charging ports from the lightning port. Users can expect a varied colour range, covering black, green, blue, yellow, and pink.
The camera represents perhaps the most important enhancement. Both models will possess a 48MP camera, which was exclusively assigned to the Pro series. Additionally, a new stacked sensor design will be incorporated into both devices. Powering these gadgets will be the Apple A16 Bionic chipset. The significant improvement is that no increase in price is anticipated. The standard iPhone 15 will start at £699, and the iPhone 15 Plus at £799.
The Pro series, iPhone 15 Pro
and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will receive a sleek upgrade with an anticipated titanium frame, making them lighter and more durable. Thinner bezels and a slightly curved display increase their attractiveness. A programmable Action button will replace the mute switch. Additionally, they will have the desired USB Type-C charging port, providing quicker charging compared to non-Pro models.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max may include a periscope zoom lens, allowing for optical zoom capabilities of 5x to 6x or even 10x. Both Pro models will run on the Apple A17 Bionic SoC with 3nm chipset technology. Prices are expected to increase slightly, with the iPhone 15 Pro starting at £1,099 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max at £1,199 or £1,299.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 was not released. The Apple Watch Series 9 will impress with its iterative updates, including the S9 chipset which is said to share technology with the A15 chip, resulting in improved performance, better battery life, and faster load times. A light pink colour variant is even rumoured.
Though details remain unknown, there are rumours that Apple could include some Apple Watch Ultra features, including a blood glucose monitor and blood pressure sensor, in the Series 9. It's unclear whether these functionalities will be available this year or next.
USB-C Charger for iPhones
In response to EU regulations, Apple has agreed to introduce standardized chargers. The new iPhone models will come with USB-C charging ports, instead of the lightning port. This move aligns with Apple's commitment to sustainability and reduces electronic waste by promoting a universal charging solution.
Carbon Neutral Products
Apple's introduction of its first carbon-neutral products marks a significant stride towards environmental responsibility. This move demonstrates Apple's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable manufacturing practices. Details of the initiative, however, remain limited. (Still waiting for a MKBHD video about how serious apple is on carbon neutrality)
